What is EA?

Eclecticism is defined as a type of methodology that makes use of the different language learning approaches instead of sticking to one standard approach” (A L Hamash, 1985:22). 

 

What is the purpose of using EA in Teaching English language?

The main purpose here is to take the advantages of each method, approach and technique in English Language Teaching (ELT) and use them depending on the classroom circumstance abilities of the learners.

 

What are the principles of EA?

Dr. Jack C. Richards publish on his personal website that It is a problem-based approach to teaching that is based on the following principles:

v What particular problem do my learners encounter in mastering this aspect of language or language use?

v What procedures can I make use of from available methods and approaches that could be used to address this problem?

 

What is the role of the teacher in EA?

The teacher selects the Eclectic types of learning activities that should be directly related to the students’ experiences in the real world. So an eclectic teacher has to be imaginative, energetic and willing to experiment for the purpose of keeping lessons varied and interesting.

 

What is The role of the student in EA?

The students participate in a lesson actively and interact with teacher and other students.

 

What is the role of the students’ native language in EA?

It depends on what method the teacher adopted in this area.

 

What is the nature of interaction between teacher and students in EA?

It depends on what method the teacher adopted in this area.

 

What areas of Language are emphasized in EA?

Vocabulary is emphasized.

 

What skills of Language are emphasized in EA?

The quality of one’s language skills obviously depends upon the quality of its vocabulary.

 

How is evaluation accomplished in EA?

Students asked to use the target language, not to demonstrate their knowledge about the language.

 

How does the teacher respond to students’ error in EA?

To correct the students’ errors and guide them properly, the teacher has to adhere to a single and unified approach which encourages the teacher to utilize all the available methods, approaches and techniques.
